Doyle Johnson: Was clothier, chairman of Gainesville planning board, former head of area Young Life

GAINESVILLE - A Gainesville man who was chairman of the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board, a former director of the area Young Life ministry and a clothier has died.

Doyle Mathis Johnson, Jr., who was 64, died Wednesday at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 Saturday at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Gainesville.

A native of Greenville, S.C., Johnson moved to Gainesville in 1976 to work with Young Life and became the area director.  Young Life, according to its Website, is an evangelical Christian ministry based in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He founded AD Mathis Custom Clothing in 1992.  

Johnson was a Deacon and Elder of Westminster Presbyterian Church for many years and served on the Gainesville Planning and Appeals Board for more than ten years.  He was its chairman at the time of his death.  He was a past member of the Rotary of Club of Gainesville and a member of the Fine Clothing Association for more than a decade.
