ATLANTA — Piedmont College's men's basketball team left no doubt Wednesday night with an 85-64 victory over Oglethorpe University, handing the Stormy Petrels their first loss of the season. The win marked the first of 2015-16 for the Lions after dropping a close contest with Emory to begin the year.
The Lions had four athletes in double figures led by Peyton Luken who accounted for 21 points against Oglethorpe as all four in double-figures were in the starting lineup. Chase England added 18 points while Chris Meeks had 16 and Trae Gaines scored 11 points. For Meeks, he has started the season scoring in double-figures in both contests.
Piedmont established a dominant lead in the first half using a 20-4 run to break open the game and take control of the contest. Piedmont held a 20 point advantage at the break at 44-24 before the Stormy Petrels stormed back to score 40 points in the second half while PC scored 41.
The Lions hit seven 3-pointers in the contest improving from the three they scored at Emory while greatly improving their shooting percentage from the floor knocking down 46 percent of their shots.
