'Do not use water' advisory remains active on Hwy. 105 in Banks

HOMER - Banks County officials say the "do not use water" warning issued Monday afternoon to Georgia Highway 105 residents whose water service was interrupted Sunday remains active.

The advisory urges Highway 105 residents not to use any water for drinking, cooking, hand washing or bathing until further notice, saying failure to comply could result in illness.

A water main and natural gas line rupture in the area of Spring Road Sunday allowed natural gas to enter the Banks County Water System main at the corner of Georgia Highway 105 and Spring Road.

According to Banks County Clerk Jenni Gailey, as of Tuesday morning county workers have repaired the water leak and Atlanta Gas Light has repaired the gas line.

"The water line has been disinfected and flushed and samples have been taken this morning and sent to the lab for analysis," Gailey said in a statement.

Test results will be returned within 24 hours.

If the test results are negative for contaminants, water service will be restored.

At this time, water is still not available to customers on Highway 105 in Banks County.
