WINDER — A Winder man has been charged with murder by Barrow County authorities following the shooting death of another man on Saturday.

In a press statement, Lt. Ryan Sears with the Barrow County Sheriff's Office said Brandon Lay of Winder was found dead in a vehicle at the intersection of Charlie Hall Road and Old Hog Mountain Road.

Lay allegedly had been caught stealing items from property owned by, but not occupied by, Paul Hamilton. The murder happened a few hours after the alleged theft occurred on Saturday morning, according to Sears.

Sears said a number of details cannot be released because of the ongoing investigation, but he did say Lay was a passenger in the vehicle where he was shot. He said Lay suffered a gunshot wound to the head.

Hamilton is currently jailed at the Barrow County Detention Center, charged with felony murder, murder and three counts of aggravated assault.
