ALTO - A fatal wreck involving a tractor trailer and passenger car completely shut down SR 365 for over 2 hours Tuesday evening.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the northbound tractor trailer was approaching Jaemor Farms Road in the left-hand lane of 365 shortly before 6 p.m. when the accident occurred.

A Lexus passenger vehicle, which had apparently exited Jaemor Farms Road in an effort to cross the northbound lanes of 365 and head south, failed to yield to the tractor trailer as it approached the intersection.

Despite attempts to swerve and avoid a collision, the tractor trailer struck the Lexus in the front left-hand side of the vehicle. The GSP reports that the semi-truck overturned in the median of the roadway, while the Lexus came to a stop in a ditch off the east shoulder of the road.

The GSP says that the driver of the Lexus, 77-year-old Gainesville resident William Johnson, and his passenger, 78-year-old Nola Erice Johnson were transported from the scene to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. Nola Johnson was unable to overcome her injuries and was later pronounced dead at the hospital, while, according to the most recent report, William Johnson remained in critical condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer, who was not identified by the State Patrol, did not receive any injuries in the crash and did not require transport for medical assistance.

All lanes of 365 were closed while the accident was processed and debris cleared from the roadway, and the GSP reports that it was reopened around 8 p.m.

No charges are pending in the crash at this time, and the accident remains under investigation.
