FLOWERY BRANCH -- There are a few truisms in football, and none is more true than this: Turn the ball over and you're in for a long night.

The Flowery Branch football team suffered that fate on Friday, as the Falcons gave the ball away five times en route to a 35-16 loss to Heritage, Conyers in Flowery Branch.

Flowery Branch (1-2, 0-2 Region 8-AAAAA) gave up two interceptions and three fumbles to the Patriots -- with a number of the turnovers coming deep in Flowery Branch territory.

The takeaways helped Heritage to sprint to a 20-0 first quarter lead that the visitors made hold up despite being out-gained by the Falcons 233-218.

Jeremiah Goss led Flowery Branch with 81 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Jasen Johnson rushed for 52 yards and a score. The sophomore completed 10 of 25 pass attempts for 67 yards.

The Falcons struggled on third down during the contest, converting just two of 13 attempts -- though Flowery Branch's defense held Heritage to just three in 14.

Patriots quarterback David Turner was efficient during the night, completing 10 of 19 attempts for 178 yards and three scores. Christian Reid also ran for a score for the visitors. Kenan Johnson caught three passes for 91 yards and a score.

Heritage had just one turnover on the night.
