GHS leans on defense, run game to knock out Loganville

GAINESVILLE -- Gainesville rolled on to the No. 2 seed from Region 8-AAAAA and took a 20-7 victory over Loganville on Friday in Gainesville.<br />

The Red Elephants (7-2, 7-1 Region 8-AAAAA) did all their damage in the first half, taking a 20-0 lead at the interval.<br />
<br />
Thanks to Gainesville's defense it was all the Red Elephants needed. Loganville managed just 111 yards for the game and tossed four interceptions in the process.<br />
<br />
Gainesville, meanwhile, put up 296 yards, including 148 through the air for Mikey Gonzalez, who connected four times with Rodney Lackey for 66 yards and a score. Messiah Dorsey also caught a touchdown pass.<br />
<br />
Michael Byrd also had a breakout game, as the senior running back rolled up 139 yards on 26 yards.<br />
<br />
Gainesville will close out the regular season at Flowery Branch next week.
