Gilmer Co. accepting donations to help flood victims

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA (AP) -- Gilmer County officials are accepting donations to help the victims of recent flash floods.

Georgia Emergency Management Agency spokeswoman Crystal Paulk-Buchanan said donated goods can be dropped off at Gilmer Fire Station 1 in East Ellijay.

She said the biggest demand is for cleaning supplies, including mops, brooms, buckets, trash bags and gloves. She said residents also need wooden studs, sheet rock, insulation, hammers, tarps and plywood.

Also needed are personal hygiene products, small first aid kits and bottled water.

Call 706-635-3424 to arrange a delivery.

Donations of used clothing are not needed.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution ( http://bit.ly/1ejuVM6 ) reports four homes were destroyed and 28 others received major damage in Thursday's flooding.

Gilmer County was one of several counties in north Georgia hit hard by another round of heavy rains Thursday. (See earlier story. Link below.)
