Soccer tourney organizers impressed by Atlanta

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA -- The organizers of an international soccer tournament that recently stopped in Atlanta say they can see the city hosting bigger matches in the future.

Confederation of North, Central American and Caribbean Association Football President Jeffrey Webb told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution he can imagine Atlanta hosting the Gold Cup championship game in the new Falcons stadium once it's completed.

The Georgia Dome played host to two quarterfinal matches on Saturday.

Webb says more than 54,200 people were on hand for the match between Mexico and Trinidad and Tobago, and the game set a Georgia Dome soccer attendance record. That match was preceded by a game between Panama and Cuba.

The Gold Cup is held every two years. The championship game is being hosted at Soldier Field in Chicago on Sunday.
