There is no doubt where the biggest showdown in the state will be on Friday night.
The Lumpkin County girls, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, will take on Private No. 1-ranked GAC in Region 6-3A. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. at The Burial Grounds in Dahlonega.
First place is on the line even though the two teams will be in different playoff classifications.
The Lady Indians (10-1, 4-1 Region 6-3A) have won six straight behind an offense that has averaged 7.1 goals/game and netted 44 goals during their streak. The Lady Spartans (11-1, 5-0 Region 6-3A) are coming off their first season loss, 5-1 to Lovett on Tuesday, and allowed just five total goals until then.
But that’s not the only game where late playoff seedings could be determined.
The Jackson County girls (7-4, 3-0 Region 8-5A) will play host to Loganville (7-3, 4-1 Region 8-5A) in a battle for second place in Region 8-5A behind No. 10 Habersham Central (9-2, 5-0 Region 8-5A).
On the boys' side, the biggest game in the area will see Class 3A fourth-ranked Johnson travel to fifth-ranked Chestatee in a showdown for second place straight up in 6-3A.
Chestatee (8-2, 4-1 Region 6-3A) has won three straight while the Knights (7-3, 4-1 Region 6-3A) have won two in a row. Johnson beat North Hall 4-0 while the War Eagles beat the Trojans 3-2 on Tuesday.
Both lost to first-place GAC by identical 1-0 scores earlier in the season.
