Woman killed, children injured in hit-and-run on I-85 South

LAWRENCEVILLE - A three-car accident ending on the Steve Reynolds Blvd. ramp on I-85 Southbound killed a woman and injured two children.

At about 1:20 pm, police arrived at the scene and discovered a box truck, Nissan Pathfinder and a tractor-trailer were all involved. The Pathfinder contained two adults and two children.

The tractor-trailer attempted to change lanes, forcing the Pathfinder off the road and into the box truck. After hitting the truck, the Pathfinder left the road and struck a steep hill and flipped over multiple times, ejecting the woman in the front passenger seat from the car. The car flipped over a guard rail and came to a stop on the Steve Reynolds Boulevard ramp.

The female passenger was taken by ambulance to a hospital but did not survive. The children were taken to Children's at Egleston with the adult male driver. They are expected to survive.

The tractor-trailer did not stop at the scene and was found in Cobb County. The driver has been identified and interviewed, charges are under investigation. The driver of the box truck did stay at the scene and was uninjured.
