AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) The Army says a 22-year-old soldier from Augusta has died in Afghanistan.
The Augusta Chronicle reports Spc. Hilda I. Clayton died Tuesday in Jalalabad, Afghanistan. The Defense Department said Wednesday her death resulted from a noncombat incident that is under investigation. No further details were released.
Clayton served as a combat documentation specialist assigned to the 21st Signal Brigade based at Fort Meade, Md. Chad Jones, a Fort Meade spokesman, says Clayton joined the unit a year ago after graduating from the Army post's Defense Information School.
