By B.J. Williams
CLERMONT - A 13-year-old girl was injured when she was hit by a car as she tried to run across Cleveland Highway near Clermont Thursday morning.

The Georgia State Patrol said the girl was running with another teen, identified as a 16-year-old girl, and she attempted to cross the highway near Oxford Road and ran into the path of a small SUV.

The investigating trooper said he was not sure if the girls were running as part of a team workout or if they were running by themselves.

The girl's injuries were not life threatening, according to the trooper, but she was taken to the hospital for treatment. He said the driver of the vehicle stopped to help and will not be charged.

The trooper said the accident was reported at 8:53 a.m.
