Four charged in north Hall hoarding case plead guilty

By B.J. Williams
GAINESVILLE - Four people charged with animal hoarding at a home in north Hall County last month entered guilty pleas in Hall County Magistrate Court Wednesday and were fined.

Mike Ledford, Director of Hall County Animal Control, identified those involved in the case as Jimmy Lee Cagle and his wife Rebecca Jean Cagle, their daughter Brandi LeeAnn Teems and another man, Jody Nicholas Starnes.

All four were charged with animal hoarding after authorities found 72 animals at their mobile home on Bogus Road on May 16. Ledford said 70 of the animals were dogs, three of them dead, while the other two were guinea pigs.

Ledford said Jimmy Lee Cagle was fined $900 for animal hoarding and related charges. The other three were fined $175.95 each, since the offense was the first for all three, according to Ledford.

Ledford said even though this case is closed, his officers will be keeping a close watch on the violators.

"We will continue to monitor the situation with their current address, current location to make sure we don't have this type of situation again in the future," said Ledford.

He said despite the discovery of the three dead dogs, the other animals were in good condition. He said all had been fed, and the worst health problem was some flea and tick infestation.

"The majority of them [seized animals] have already been adopted from our location and the other humane societies and rescue groups that were able to accommodate some of them for us," said Ledford.
