CARNESVILLE - North Georgians may have the holiday weekend on their minds, but that doesn't mean they've forgotten the people affected by this week's tornado in Moore, Oklahoma.
The Franklin County Firefighters Association was spearheading a collection effort for tornado survivors, filling a truck with non-perishable food, bottled water and cleaning supplies. In addition, donors had given more than $3,000 to the relief effort as of noon Friday.
The idea was the brainchild of the Captain at the Carnesville Fire Department, so that station was the donation site.
The goal is to have the truck filled by 5 p.m., but officials said if donations were there before 6 p.m., then they would be included on the truck, scheduled to leave for Oklahoma Friday night.
