University of North Georgia (UNG) baseball player Eason Spivey has been named the Peach Belt Conference's (PBC) Player of the Week as released Monday afternoon. It is the first weekly award for the Saints this season.
Spivey, a sophomore catcher from Montrose, Ga., provided a consistent and steady bat at the plate in four games for the Saints last week as he batted .533 with a .933 slugging percentage. His averages went up to .583 batting and 1.167 slugging in North Georgia's three-game series with Armstrong Atlantic State University.
In the weekend series, Spivey recorded multiple hits in all three games and drove in at least one run in all three games, totaling five RBI for the weekend, as the Saints recorded their second conference series of the season. In the weekend opener on Friday night, he went 3-4 with a pair of doubles and a triple and followed that up with two more doubles in the second game.
Spivey wrapped up the weekend with a pair of singles in Saturday's rubber game, driving in one run and scoring two more to lead North Georgia to the 6-5 victory.
North Georgia has five more games in the current home stand starting with a single game against Valdosta State University on Wednesday, Apr. 17. The Saints and Blazers will square off on the diamond starting at 5:00 p.m. in what will be UNG's "Residence Life and RA Appreciation Night."
