Brenau-Fair Street literacy, fine arts project

By Staff
GAINESVILLE - Brenau University and Fair Street IB World School recently completed a Literacy and Fine Arts in Education project.

The project was funded by a $2,000 grant from Target.

The purpose of the project was to give pre-service undergraduate students from Brenau the experience of leading elementary students in writing stories and illustrating them to reflect their experiences and culture.

Some Brenau students worked with students in Michelle Daily's class through the process of writing creative stories, according to Gainesville Schools Supt. Merrianne Dyer. Others assisted students with the illustrations. The stories were compiled in a book that Fair Street students titled "Tiger Tales."

Mountain Projects Publishing Company printed the book. The author's biography and photo was included at the end of each story. A Book Release celebration was held at Fair Street on Monday, March 25.
