GAINESVILLE - When Georgians go to the polls on July 31 for the Democratic and Republican General Election primaries, they'll find more than a list of candidates and the Transportation Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) on their ballots.
Each party has included a number of non-binding "questions" on their respective ballots. They cover issues ranging from casino gambling and party registration by would-be voters for primary elections (the GOP ballot) and giving the state override authority on local school boards' decisions creating charter schools to reducing the sales tax on "made in Georgia" products (the Democratic ballot.)
There will be five such questions on the GOP ballot and four on the Democratic ballot. Both ballots will ask voters' opinions on ending the current practice of allowing unlimited gifts by lobbyists to state legislators.
Georgia Democrats will also be asked in they are in favor of an income tax credit for home energy costs. Republican voters will also be asked if the state's gun laws should be eased for active duty military personnel who are under 31 and if the state Constitution should be amended to include a right to life guarantee for the unborn.
