T-SPLOST campaign discussed at chamber meeting

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - Several strategies were discussed Wednesday morning at a meeting in Gainesville concerning a campaign for passage of next year's Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (T-SPLOST) referendum.

Among the highlights: meeting with the opposition and meeting with it early, outlining the real benefits to the area of passage of the referendum, and making sure the public knows that the money raised in the area will stay in the area.

The referendum, one of 12 scheduled simultaneously in different regions around the state, will be held either next July during the General Election primaries or during the General Election the following November. The state Legislature is expected to decide early next year when the votes will take place.

Wednesday's discussion in Gainesville was a part of a meeting of the Greater Hall Chamber of Commerce's Issues Committee.

The chamber board of directors will hear a presentation on T-SPLOST Thursday.
