Loud car stereo leads to drug, weapons charges

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor
GAINESVILLE - A young Gainesville man was stopped by sheriff's deputies Monday night for playing his car stereo too loudly but that was just the beginning of his troubles.

Before all was said and done 21-year-old Jesus Ayala was also facing drug and weapons charges.

Sgt. Stephen Wilbanks of the Hall County Sheriff's Office says Ayala was stopped about 11:00 in the 800 block of Jesse Jewell Parkway.

"During the course of the stop, deputies discovered a handgun with an extra magazine and ammunition, knives, and a smoking pipe containing methamphetamine," Sgt. Wilbanks said. "A check of the handgun's serial number through the Georgia Crime Information Center's computer system indicated that the handgun was reported stolen in Hall County in April of 2010."

Ayala was arrested without incident and booked into the Hall County Jail, where he was charged with Theft by Receiving (misdemeanor), Possession of a Firearm
during the Commission of a Crime, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Related Objects, and Loud Music from a Vehicle.

A passenger in the vehicle was released at the scene without charges.
