OAKWOOD -- Chestatee overcame an early deficit and then used its ground attack to take a 41-14 win over West Hall friday night at Spartans Stadium.
Junior quarterback Jordan DeGraff quided the offense and ran for two touchdowns for the War Eagles (1-0) who won their opener for the first time since 2007.
Brandon Thompson also rushed for two touchdowns and Quan Clark and Montai Tate each had one rushing touchdown to lead Chestatee.
The War Eagles trailed early after West Hall's Rico Jones capped the Spartans' first drive with a 57-yard scoring run for a 7-0 lead. It would be short-lived, however, as Chestatee would answer back on its next two posessions. The war Eagles would take a 20-7 lead into halftime.
The Spartans (0-2) tried to get back in the game scoring on its first second half poession to cut the lead to 20-14 on a 61-yard pass from Chandler Newton to A.J. Stephens. But they could get no closer. Newton would finish with 225 yards passing in the loss.
Chestatee would respond with three second half touchdown drives to put the game away.
