Softball: Buford routs St. Pius

By staff reports
ATLANTA -- Defending four-time Class AA state champion Buford continued its grueling opening season stretch of games against ranked teams Tuesday taking on Class AAA eighth-ranked St. Pius on the road.

The Lady Wolves got a solid performance from Bria Bush, who allowed six hits and and just one earned run, as Buford whipped the Lady Golden Lions 7-2.

Bush also fanned six in 5 2/3 innings.

Buford (4-5) led just 1-0 heading into the fifth inning on a triple from Kallie Case, who then stole home after a St. Pius infielder walked the ball back to the mound and forgot about case at third.

The Lady Wolves then blew the game open with two runs in the fifth and four runs in the sixth for a 7-1 lead. St. Pius cut the lead to the final score with a run in the sixth but could get no closer.

Case finished with two hits, two RBI, and scored twice to pace the Buford offense. Rebekah Rude also had two hits and scored two runs for the Lady Wolves.

Buford next will travel to North Georgia College on Wednesday to take on North Forsyth. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
