ATLANTA -- Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will not start against the Pirates after he strained his right quadriceps in Monday night's game.
Braves manager Fredi Gonzalez says there is a 50-50 chance Jones could come in off the bench in Tuesday night's game. Gonzalez says the team hasn't discussed placing Jones back on the disabled list.
The 39-year-old Jones had arthroscopic surgery on July 9 to repair torn cartilage in his right knee. He returned with two hits, including his ninth homer, on Monday night.
He remained in the game after he strained his quadriceps on defense in the sixth inning and hit the homer in the eighth.
Jones was receiving treatment and was not available for comment before batting practice on Tuesday.
