Two public hearings set for Dawson Forest WMA plans

By B.J. Williams
DAWSONVILLE - Dawson County commissioners are ready to hear from the public on plans for the Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area.

Dawson County spokeswoman Cathy Brooks said commissioners voted Thursday night to hold two public hearings.

"The commissioners are seeking input from the public regarding the possibility of a reservoir for Shoal Creek," said Brooks. "And this would also include discussion on a low impact park and recreation area."

The public hearings have been set for September 8 and September 22 during the commission's regular work sessions. Brooks said the hearings will likely begin at 4:00 p.m. both dates and discussion would be limited to 30 minutes at each session.

The idea of building a reservoir on the WMA property is one that has been floated for the last several years by developers and legislators.
