Former Tech player denies accepting gifts

By The Associated Press
DUBLIN -- A former Georgia Tech wide receiver denies receiving improper benefits that cost the Yellow Jackets their 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference title.

The NCAA also put Tech on four years of probation on Thursday and fined the school $100,000 for violations that included problems in the men's basketball program.

The NCAA said Tech should have declared receiver Demaryius Thomas ineligible after he accepted $312 worth of clothing from former Yellow Jackets quarterback Calvin Booker, who was working for a sports agent.

Thomas, now a Denver Broncos wide receiver who played at West Laurens High School, told The Courier Herald newspaper in Dublin that while he was offered money, cars, shoes, clothing and a watch, he never accepted anything. He says he feels bad for what happened to Georgia Tech.
