The Red Ink Red Rabbit: How Long?

So...the Red Ink Red Rabbit has finally hopped into the picture as a place to cut $624,000 from the county budget. Why cut the Red Rabbit? Because it is a total failure as a means of mass transportation, and that was its original objective. The idea of the Red Rabbit system of mass transportation was to provide an inexpensive way for many people to go from where they were to where they wanted to go, and to reduce traffic and air pollution.

A federal grant provided the money to start the Red Rabbit more than a decade ago, and it still gets some of that "free" money from Washington and Atlanta. It works in Europe, the original providers said; why not here? When it became obvious it was not working some years ago, we paid money for consultants. That didn't work so the so-called service was expanded, and Hall Area Transit (HAT) appeared on the scene. Under this plan, local government would pick up people wherever they were and take them where they wanted to go
