G-Braves take out Indianapolis with some help from Heyward

By staff reports
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Jason Heyward returned to help the Gwinnett Braves take out the Indianapolis Indians 2-0 on Monday at Victory Field in Indianapolis, Ind.

G-Braves starter Todd Redmond (5-6) was dominant in the win, throwing 6 shutout innings.

With the Gwinnett (34-30) win, the Braves remained in a tie for first place with the Durham Bulls for the International League South division lead.

Heyward, who joined the G-Braves Monday on a MLB rehab stint, doubled in the first inning, and was brought home by Mauro Gomez's single to centerfield for an early lead.

Thanks in large part to Redmond it was all Gwinnett would need, as he allowed just three hits. Redmond was relieved by Cory Gearrin, who tossed an inning while allowing one hit. Jaye Chapman also added an inning of scoreless relief for the visitors before Jairo Asencio came on to record the save -- his 10th of the year.

Heyward, who batted in the third spot and played right field, went 1-for-3 on the night with a double, run scored, and a walk. Gomez, who drove in the first run of the game, was one of two G-Braves with a multi-hit game, finishing 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Second baseman Ed Lucas also went 2-for-4 with a run scored and a double. Outfielder Jose Constanza, who was named IL Player of the Week on Monday, improved his hitting streak to 11 games with a 1-for-4 performance.

The G-Braves finish up their four game series against the Indians on Tuesday night at 7:05 p.m. The Braves will send out RHP Julio Teheran (6-1, 1.98) vs. RHP Sean Gallagher (1-8, 7.06) for the Indians.
