Brenau softball halts losing skid vs. Lee

GAINESVILLE -- The Brenau University softball team slid to ninth in the latest National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics poll after falling in two weekend series, but the Golden Tigers bounced back to split a doubleheader with Lee University on Tuesday in Gainesville.

Lee took the first outing at Lanier Pointe Park 4-3, but Brenau ended their losing skid with an emphatic 13-1 win in the second match-up.

Tiffany Schandera (Columbus) and Jenny Shepherd (Martinez) led the way on offense in Game 1, while Jana Bryant (Marietta) also went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Game 2 featured an offensive onslaught from the Golden Tigers (31-7, 15-5 Southern States Athletic Conference). Shepherd paced the outbreak, going 3-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs. Shepherd also struck out five Lee batters. Schandera also went 3-for-4, with a double and two RBIs. Katie Bolin (Danielsville) also had two hits, including a double and two RBIs.

Brenau travels to face Brewton-Parker College on Friday in Mount Vernon.
