Storms destroy NE Georgia animal shelter

By The Associated Press
ELLIJAY - Storms destroyed an animal shelter in the Ellijay area, but all of the animals somehow survived.

Gilmer County Fire Chief Tony Pritchett says the shelter was obliterated by the storms.

Pritchett said firefighters arrived shortly after the storm struck Monday and began removing debris from animals trapped in the rubble.

Sixty-four animals were inside the barn when the storm hit, and the last creature rescued was a dove named Mrs. Noah.
