DAHLONEGA -- The Golden Tigers tennis team traveled to North Georgia College and State University this afternoon to take on the NCAA Division II team and came away with an impressive 7-2 victory. The Tigers started the day really well, winning doubles No. 1, 2 and 3 by the score of 8-4, 8-2 and 8-4 respectively.
With a 3-0 lead, Brenau had to win only 2 out of 6 singles matches to secure the victory. The Golden Tigers did not disappoint, as Liubov Orlova defeated Audrey Marlette from NGCSU at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0, and Nelli Martirosyan won at No. 6 6-0, 6-0. With the match already decided, Eline Nagels gave Brenau a 6-0 lead with a win at No. 5 singles. North Georgia came back at No. 1, when Laura Chapman defeated Lyn See Choo, 6-2, 6-3. Hannah Thompson gave Brenau another victory at No. 3 defeating Juliana Moscoso, 7-5, 6-3.
The last match of the day came down to a third set super tie-breaker. Senior Kate Mazackova fought until the end and came just a little short, as Stasa Vujosevic gave the Saints their second point 6-3, 4-6, 10-6. Brenau is now 1-1 for the season and will play Emory University next, ranked number 3 nationally in the NCAA III. The match is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 17th at the Brenau Tennis Center at 3 pm.
