GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Board of Education Monday night agreed to seek input from School Governance Councils and parents while considering revisions to the long-range (2014-2018) facilities needs for the school system.
Options that were discussed include: placing an elementary program at Wood's Mill for K-5 with a Blended Learning (computer based) instructional choice, having Gainesville High School occupy one or two modular buildings at Wood's Mill, and planning for a K-8 school on the future Mundy Mill site near Oakwood.
The board also discussed the number of students new to Gainesville City Schools and how to support their transition. There are 720 students new to Gainesville schools who have moved into the city for the first time this school year, according to Supt. Merrianne Dyer.
The Board discussed the district's Balanced Scorecard and will consider adding objectives from the State's College and Career Readiness Index, the measures that have been submitted to the U.S. Department of Education to replace the Adequate Yearly Progress under No Child Left Behind.
