LOGANVILLE -- West Hall won its first game of the year with a solid 38-9 win over Walnut Grove Friday night in both teams' Region 8B-AAA opener.
The Spartans (1-4, 1-0 Region 8B-AAA) never trailed behind the passing and running of Chandler Newton. The sophomore quarterback passed for 211 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 59 yards and one touchdown.
After a slow start, West Hall scored the final 10 points of the first half for a 17-6 halftime lead. The Spartans put the game away in the second half outscoring the Warriors 21-3 after halftime.
Newton connected twice with A.J. Stephens, who had two catches for 107 yards and two touchdowns. Newton also connected with Isaiah Murphy on a 33-yard TD pass. Stephens also led the Spartans with 80 yards rushing and one touchdown.
West Hall next will play host to rival Johnson next week in another key subregion match-up.
