JEFFERSON -- Brian Shirreffs threw for 242 yards and four touchdowns but it wasn't enough to lead Jefferson against North Oconee Friday night in a critical Region 8B-AA game.
North Oconee held off two rallies from the Dragons to take a 38-28 win over the Dragons at Memorial Stadium. North Oconee led 7-0 early but and Jefferson responded with 14 straight points to take a 14-7 lead. The Titans would answer with 14 points of their own late in the second quarter for a 21-14 halftime lead.
The Titans looked to be taking control of the game to begin the second half running out to a 28-14 lead. Jefferson answered again to pull within 28-21 but the Titans again extended its lead to 35-21 early in the fourth quarter.
The Dragons would get to within 35-28 midway through the fourth quarter but North Oconee sealed the game with a 32-yard field goal with just four minutes left.
Will Puckett had a huge game for Jefferson with three TD catches while Donnie Hatfield had one TD catch for the Dragons. Tristen Jackson ran for 97 yards for Jefferson and Cody McDonald led the defense with 17 tackles for the game.
