ATHENS - University of Georgia President Michael Adams says UGA will invest more in graduate education, including more spending for graduate fellowships to draw top students.
Adams made his annual State of the University speech on Thursday and said UGA can't be a great research institution if its graduate programs are not strong.
He says that beginning this fall, the university will spend $1 million a year on fellowships for 40 additional doctoral students.
UGA's enrollment of nearly 35,000 includes about 9,000 graduate and professional students.
Adams says a new building is planned to house the university's graduate school offices.
