COLUMBIA, S.C. - South Carolina prison officials say an inmate who walked away from a minimum-security facility has been captured in northeast Georgia.
The state Corrections Department said in a news release that 29-year-old Brandon McDonald was arrested Wednesday at a hotel in Toccoa. The agency said McDonald would be transferred to a medium- or maximum-security prison when he is returned to South Carolina.
McDonald was less than a year into a four-year sentence for assault and battery in Greenwood County when officials say he walked away from the Lower Savannah Pre-Release Center on March 1.
McDonald faces a felony escape charge. If convicted, he faces a sentence of one to 15 years.
