Parking deck elevators finally operational

GAINESVILLE - One more item on the construction punch-list for the new Gainesville parking deck has been checked off: the elevators.

They are now working, according to Project Manager Jarrett Nash, who said Wednesday that "the state inspection was completed Friday."

The long-delayed opening of the renovated and enlarged Georgia Mountains Center parking deck occurred late last year but use of the elevators were not ready for use at that time.

There are three of them: two on the side of the deck nearest the main entrance to the mountains center and one on the side nearest the downtown square.

But, the book has not been closed on the deck.

Nash says there are still several "very minor items" left on the punch list "which should be completed by the end of February and have a sealed deal with this parking deck."

Included are some striping and "some minor storm drain work and odds-and-ends touch-up inside the deck."
