Softball: Fullem, Rudnik lead Lady Wolves to first win of season

By staff reports
HOSCHTON - The defending Class AA state champion Buford girls softball team picked up its first win of the season with a 3-0 shutout of Class AAAAA Dacula Thursday in the Mill Creek Invitational Tournament.

Junior Karly Fullem (1-0) tossed a complete game shutout allowing six hits and walking one with nine strike outs.

Fullem got plenty of support as the Lady Wolves (1-1) pounded out 10 hits against the Lady Falcons. Buford scored single runs in the fist, third, and fifth innings

Senior Alysha Rudnik singled to right scoring Chelsie Thomas in the first inning to give Buford the quick lead. In the third inning Rudnik led off with a triple to right field and scored on a single by sophomore Lexi Overstreet.

Dacula threatened to take the lead in the fourth inning but Fullem was able to get out of a bases loaded, no out situation without allowing a run.

Buford put the game out of reach in the fifth when senior Samantha Ramey started a two-out rally with a single and then scored two batters later on a double by junior Melissa Dickey.

Buford next will take on defending Class AAA champion Oconee County Friday in the Mill Creek Tournament at 6 p.m. The Lady Wolves will follow with a game against South Forsyth at 8 p.m.
