GEMA: More than 50 counties impacted by flooding

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - The Georgia Emergency Management Agency says it will take a while to determine how much damage was done in Georgia by flooding from last week's heavy rains, particularly across the southern part of the state.

GEMA spokesman Buzz Weiss said Thursday more than 50 counties were impacted by the flooding. Officials are looking toward next week before coming up with a price tag on the damage.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is evaluating 94 houses that were damaged or destroyed by high water, as flooding from the Saltilla River subsides in Brantley County.

Residents in the counties of Ware, Pierce, and Brantley are advised to boil their water or to buy bottled water if their wells were flooded. Those living in Atkinson, Charlton and Coffee counties are advised to boil water.
