Red Lights, Blue Lights and Unfortunate Spotlights

This has been an interesting week when it comes to lights. And, the news concerning lights covers the spectrum of colors. We have all kind of news about the red light cameras, that at one time were the best thing since sliced bread. Apparently now this bread is too expensive for the budget plate and is being pulled back. We have news of the blue light category of a law that will add on a super fine for those who are designated as super speeders which will increase revenue. And, lastly we have news of the spotlight category whereby we have been identified as the new Promised Land for the Mexican Drug Lords as they try to further their industry. Unfortunately, the furtherance of their pursuit is taking place right in our back yards. <br />

Lets start with the red lights first. Remember when one jurisdiction after another was jumping on the automatic red light cameras and putting them at every intersection? It was all in the spirit of public safety and saving lives and reducing the number of accidents. But, the one thing that it was not being done for, as you will also remember, was as a source of revenue. Never mind, that the revenue that they were not concerned about, proved to be a fairly large amount that was adding wonderfully remarkably to a jurisdictional coffers.
