Personal info of college students, faculty stolen

By The Associated Press
CARROLLTON - University of West Georgia officials have notified nearly 1,300 students and faculty members that their personal information was on a laptop stolen from a professor traveling in Italy.

The university announced Monday that letters have been sent to those affected. The laptop was taken last summer, but university officials say they only recently learned that the computer contained sensitive information, including names, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers.

Kathy Kral, interim chief information officer for the university, says so far no one has reported any problems in connection with the theft of the laptop.
