The university announced Monday that letters have been sent to those affected. The laptop was taken last summer, but university officials say they only recently learned that the computer contained sensitive information, including names, addresses, phone numbers and Social Security numbers.
Kathy Kral, interim chief information officer for the university, says so far no one has reported any problems in connection with the theft of the laptop.
