Stream flows still well-below normal

By B.J. Williams
ATHENS - Despite all of the rain and snow that's fallen over the last few weeks, Assistant State Climatologist Pam Knox says stream flows are still well below normal.

The rains of the past few days helped push the level of Lake Lanier up nearly half-a-foot. Lanier began rebounding from the drought in mid-December. The level early Monday was 1058.95.

The most recent rain continues a pattern of erratic weather... with snow, rain and near record heat all within the last two weeks. Knox says that could include a return of a La Nina pattern.

"The biggest thing we have to think a bout from La Nina in the summer is that in a 'La Nina summer we do have a tendancy to have more tropical storms, which would be fine because we could use the rainfall."

Some parts of Northeast Georgia, by the way, have seen over three inches of rain since Saturday. (See separate story.)
