Mayor's race recount scheduled Wednesday

By The Associated Press
ATLANTA - Fulton County election officials will recount the votes from the Atlanta mayoral runoff on Wednesday.

Former state Sen. Kasim Reed edged out city councilwoman Mary Norwood by only 715 votes in the Dec. 1 contest. Under Georgia law, the runner-up can petition for a recount when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent of the total vote.

Norwood's campaign manager, Roman Levitt, says he delivered a letter requesting the recount to elections officials at around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Elections chief Barry Garner confirmed receipt of Norwood's request. Garner says the recount is expected to take four to five hours.
