Former state Sen. Kasim Reed edged out city councilwoman Mary Norwood by only 715 votes in the Dec. 1 contest. Under Georgia law, the runner-up can petition for a recount when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent of the total vote.
Norwood's campaign manager, Roman Levitt, says he delivered a letter requesting the recount to elections officials at around 1 p.m. Tuesday. Elections chief Barry Garner confirmed receipt of Norwood's request. Garner says the recount is expected to take four to five hours.
