UNDATED - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers says boat ramps have reopened on Hartwell and Thurmond lakes because of improved water levels.
The Corps said Wednesday that both lakes are still well below average levels for this time of year. The Corps is continuing with measures designed to boost lake levels such as reduced flows from the Thurmond Dam and no flow from Lake Hartwell.
The average elevation for Hartwell Lake for Wednesday was 655 feet. That's up from a record low of 637 feet in December.
The Corps manages the lakes shared by South Carolina and Georgia along the Savannah River.
The Corps said last week it was reopening ramps on Lake Lanier where the lake level is now up more than three feet since January 1. Though it is still well-below full pool, the level of Lanier is now at 1056.19. That's 14.81 feet below full pool.
