Jury acquits ex-Va. Tech student in shooting

By The Associated Press
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. -- A jury has found a former Virginia Tech student not guilty of shooting into the apartment of cornerback Victor Harris.

The Montgomery County Circuit Court jury on Thursday acquitted Anthony Lucas of Washington, D.C., of charges in the shooting last November in Blacksburg.

The other man charged in the case, Augustus Peal, claimed in testimony Wednesday that former wide receiver Justin Harper was the target of the shooting. It occurred at about 3:30 a.m. after a Virginia Tech home game in which the Hokies defeated Florida State.

Police found bullet holes inside and outside the apartment, and Harris described running from room to room to escape the shooting.

No trial date for Peal has been set.
