GAINESVILLE - Gainesville attorney Sonny Sykes qualified Friday to oppose Hall County State Court Judge Charlie Wynne in the November General Election.
The county's other state court judge, Gene Roberts, will run unopposed.
The county's two Superior Court judges up for election this year - Kathlene Gosselin and Bonnie Oliver - will each also run unopposed. Gosselin and Oliver also serve Dawson County, which, along with Hall, makes up the Northeastern Judicial Circuit.
In fact, in the immediate Gainesville area only one incumbent Superior Court judge picked up any opposition. Karen Beyers, a Lawrenceville attorney, qualified to run against Richard Winegarden, a Gwinnett County Superior Court judge.
In the Jefferson-based Piedmont Judicial Circuit, two of the three Superior Court judges will run unopposed for re-election, Joseph Booth and David Motes. The chief judge in the circuit, Robert W. Adamson, is not running again after 15 years on the bench. The only person to qualify for the post he is vacating is Currie Mingledorff, a Winder attorney.
Qualifying began Monday for judgeships across Georgia and ended at noon Friday.
