HELEN - Just in time for the summer vacation season, the visitor center at one of the most popular spots in the northeast Georgia mountains is reopening.
In addition to the visitor center, Anna Ruby Falls, part of the Chattahoochee National Forest, offers hiking trails and picnic opportunities.
One of the new things visitors to the area will notice this year is that the area is now being cared for on a daily basis by employees of the Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association. A recent Special Use Agreement between the U.S. Forest Service and the Cradle of Forestry Association means that the visitor center will be staffed daily, that interpretive items will be stocked within the gift shop, and interpretive programs will be offered on a limited basis.
"This agreement with the Cradle of Forestry is really a win-win situation for the visitor," District Ranger Dave Jensen said. "There will be a daily presence of employees at the recreation area and, of course, the Visitor Center itself is now open once again. This will allow us to provide much better service to our visitors to this site."
The Cradle of Forestry Interpretive Association is a non-profit entity that presently operates 44 retail sales outlets on National Forests in 7 states.
