PEARL, Miss. - The Atlanta Braves' top prospect got off to a fast start in his return to the minor leagues after a 50-game suspension for violating Major League Baseball's drug policy.
Jordan Schaefer started in center field Monday night for the Double-A Mississippi Braves of the Southern League. He finished 2-for-4 with a two-run triple in a 6-5 loss to the Birmingham Barons.
The 21-year-old played four games for Mississippi this season before his suspension. He was eligible to play over the weekend, but was held out of the lineup until Monday.
Schaefer, a 2005 third-round pick, hit .312 last season in Single-A and finished with 15 home runs, 63 RBIs and 49 doubles.
