Police ponder charging 18-year-old in 3-fatality crash

By The Associated Press
WINDER - Winder Police spokesman Dennis Dorsey says it may be several weeks before authorities decide whether to file charges against an 18-year-old driver in a fiery crash that left three dead.

Levi Brooks of Statham survived the wreck about 1 a.m. Tuesday near Fort Yargo State Park.

Killed were 71-year-old Wilber Taylor and his 70-year-old wife, Dorothy Jean Pike-Taylor. Police say the car driven by Brooks crossed a double yellow line to pass a tractor-trailer and struck the Taylors' car. Also killed was 21-year-old Derrick Banks of Bethlehem, a passenger in the Dodge Neon that struck the couple's car.

The wreck caused a fire that engulfed both cars.

Police say the Taylors were taking a friend home from a revival meeting when the car slammed head-on into their car on Georgia 11.
